The Swinburne University of Technology is inviting applications for Ph.D. position in in modeling and simulation of membrane-based gas separation processes. In recent years, membrane-based separation systems have been employed for a number of gas separation tasks. A membrane plant offers several advantages because of its modular structure, low energy consumption, and ease of operation. There are still many areas of uncertainty that need to be resolved before commercial application can proceed. The performance of membrane separators is dependent on membrane configuration, membrane materials, and operating conditions requiring expensive experiments to determine the effective operation regimens of such separators.
Mathematical modeling and simulation of membrane-based gas separation processes are thus critical for providing original and innovative solutions as well as to reduce the experimental costs. The main objective of this Ph.D. project is to develop mathematical models that would be suitable for application to a wide range of problems relevant to membrane-based gas separation processes. Interested candidates will be required to use computer packages such as MATLAB and COMSOL or any other suitable engineering software.
The Ph.D. activities will be conducted in Swinburne Sarawak Campus but the program will be administered in Swinburne Melbourne since the candidate will be enrolled in Swinburne Melbourne. The Ph.D. degree will also be awarded by Swinburne Melbourne.
