JCCI Singapore Foundation Scholarship at Waseda University in Japan, 2016-2017

Applications are invited for JCCI scholarship from Singaporean students to undertake one year study program from September 2016 to July 2017 at Waseda University. Students must be current university undergraduates and below the age of 24 (as at 1st January 2016). The Foundation provides full sponsorship up to a maximum of S$50,000 which includes a two-way air ticket, tuition fees, daily expenses, accommodations and transportation allowances. The application deadline is 4 September 2015.

Eligibility:
-Applicants must be Singaporean citizens, current university undergraduates and below the age of 24 (as at 1st January 2016).
-Students in the first year of study & graduating before or in the year 2016 need NOT apply.
-Applicants with some basic knowledge of the Japanese language will be preferred.
-Applicants must have genuine interest in Japan.
-He/ She must be physically healthy.

Scholarship Description: The Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry (JCCI) Singapore Foundation, in cooperation with Waseda University in Japan, set up a one-year (September 2016 to July 2017) scholarship program at the School of International Liberal Studies for undergraduates. The Foundation hopes to provide young Singaporeans an opportunity to study in Japan through this program. Also, it wishes to promote further exchanges and cooperation between Singapore and Japan. The successful candidate is thus expected to play the role of a diplomat with the task of strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations during and after the scholarship programme. The scholarship program was established in 1995 to commemorate Singapore’s 30th Year of National Independence and the 5th Anniversary of JCCI Singapore Foundation.

What does it cover? The Foundation provides full sponsorship up to a maximum of S$50,000 which includes a two-way air ticket, tuition fees, daily expenses, accommodations and transportation allowances. There is no bond attached to the scholarship. The selected candidate will have to stay in the Dormitory arranged by Waseda University and JCCI.

How to Apply: Applicants must submit application form by post together with following documents:
-photocopies of official transcripts, school results, testimonials and other educational certificates
-a photocopy of the birth certificate
-original letters of recommendation from two of the dean, department head, academic advisor, an instructor or a person who knows the applicant well
-a typewritten essay explaining academic objectives for studying in Japan (A4-sized, two to three pages)
-a non-returnable passport-sized photograph (Please attach to application form)
